Example
Say your birthday is June 17. On October 30, 2026, the next one is Thursday, June 17, 2027: 230 days away, or 230 sleeps. Your half birthday, six months from your birthday, is December 17, 2026. Over the next three years it falls in 2027 on a Thursday, 2028 on a Saturday and 2029 on a Sunday.
Add the year you were born and the countdown also shows the age you’re turning. For your exact age today in years, months and days, use the age calculator.
How the days are counted
The countdown runs to midnight at the start of your birthday, by your device’s clock, so it reaches zero the moment your birthday begins wherever you are. Sleeps are the nights left: the night before your birthday, there’s 1. On the day itself, the page wishes you a happy birthday and starts counting to the next one.
A birthday moves one weekday later each year, or two when a February 29 comes in between. That’s why the same weekday comes back after 5, 6 or 11 years, never on a neat cycle. Open Your birthday’s weekday in coming years to see yours.
Birthdays on February 29
Leap-day birthdays only come around every four years; the next February 29 is in 2028. In other years this countdown, like the age calculator, uses February 28, the last day of the birth month. Some people celebrate on March 1 instead, and some laws use March 1 for reaching a legal age, so it’s worth checking if it matters.
